Sandino ScheideggerThis artwork is the result of a collaboration between the artist Federico Herrero, a long time supporter of Social Income, and Edition VFO, the print house in Zurich led by David Khalat, which produced the edition and chose to let it benefit Social Income.

Herrero is one of Latin America's most important living painters. The Costa Rican is known for his abstract landscapes, built from fields of color and loose form, spread across canvases, bridges and building facades.
“For Herrero, painting is also influenced by sound. Recurring modules, pauses of emptiness, and colors create rhythm.”
He has been exhibiting internationally for more than two decades. He took the Special Prize for a Young Artist at the Venice Biennale in 2001, and his work is held in major museum collections, including the Guggenheim and Tate Modern.
The lithograph is called Samaná. Seven colors, drawn on stone and printed the traditional way at Wolfensberger in Zurich. Small shapes drift across an open blue, caught somewhere between sea and sky. Anyone who knows Herrero's early paintings will recognize it on sight.
The agreement with Edition VFO is simple: all proceeds from the edition go to Social Income, minus the CHF 8,500 production cost, which VFO paid upfront and recovers first from the sales.
Dec 2026: 8/22 sold (production costs fully covered)
Feb 2026: 9/22 sold (CHF 1,000 paid out to SI)
Sept 2026: 11/22 sold (CHF 2,000 paid out to SI)
The work Samaná was also shown as part of VFO's exhibition Eternal Landscapes, accompanied by a VFO Dialogue between Social Income founder Sandino Scheidegger and Valérie Hashimoto on artist support, universal basic income, and poverty in the Global South.
