About this program

This program complements the Financial Skills for Women program run by One Village Partners in rural Sierra Leone. Learning to budget, save, and run a business is one thing — putting it into practice requires means. Social Income provides regular income throughout the program, so women can apply what they learn and build lasting financial independence.

Sierra Leone

Sierra Leone sits on the West African coast, home to around 8.6 million people speaking Krio as the common language alongside English. Founded in 1787 as a settlement for formerly enslaved people, it gained independence in 1961, then endured a decade-long civil war ending in 2002 and the 2014 Ebola outbreak. Today most Sierra Leoneans live on less than three dollars a day.
