This is Social Income's core program in Ghana which runs continuously and tackles what all our work comes down to: poverty. Regular, unconditional income lets people decide for themselves what they need most โ because nobody knows their needs better than they do.
Ghana sits on the West African coast, home to around 33 million people speaking Twi as the most common language alongside English. Founded as the Gold Coast under British rule, it gained independence in 1957 as the first sub-Saharan African country to do so, then navigated a series of coups before returning to stable democratic governance in the 1990s. Today roughly a third of Ghanaians still live in poverty, despite the country's oil wealth and one of the continent's more stable economies.
