About this program

This program supports widows in Sierra Leone at a moment when life is upended: the loss of a husband often means the loss of income, property, and social standing all at once. Support that arrives in this window does more than cover basic needs β€” it restores a woman's independence and steadies the children and households that depend on her.

Sierra Leone

Sierra Leone sits on the West African coast, home to around 8.6 million people speaking Krio as the common language alongside English. Founded in 1787 as a settlement for formerly enslaved people, it gained independence in 1961, then endured a decade-long civil war ending in 2002 and the 2014 Ebola outbreak. Today most Sierra Leoneans live on less than three dollars a day.
